Canada refugee Expedited Policy – Designation of Egypt & Yemen
Policy on the Expedited Processing of Refugee Claims by the Refugee Protection Division: Designation of Afghanistan, Burundi, Egypt, and Yemen
As cited by Immigration and Boards of Canada, effective June 1st, 2017, the Refugee Protection Division (RPD) has designated claims for refugee protection from Afghanistan, Burundi, Egypt, and Yemen as eligible for processing under the Policy on the Expedited Processing of Refugee Claims by the Refugee Protection Division. The designation was initiated based on high 2016 national acceptance rates, a sufficiently high volume of cases, and review of common claim types and issues relating to claims from these countries.
The purpose of the policy is to enable the RPD to meet its mandate of making refugee status determinations fairly and efficiently by accepting claims without a hearing in appropriate circumstances. The policy was first issued by the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada on September 18, 2015, and since that time, claims from Syria, Iraq, and Eritrea have also been designated as eligible for processing under the policy.
You can apply for refugee status at any port of entry. This means an airport, seaport or land border.
